We could not be bigger fans of an outdoor wedding in St. Louis! The trees, flowers, lakes, and fields are all of the decorations you’ll ever need! But for all of the amazing potential of an outdoor wedding in St. Louis, there may also be a few unexpected things to deal with. Here’s how you can be prepared for some curveballs Mother Nature may throw your way in these crazy Missouri seasons! 

1. So. Many. Bugs.

You wouldn’t believe how many bugs are flying around ready to crawl into the folds of a wedding dress…It’s not that there are more bugs than normal, it’s just that you’ve never been outside wrapped up in eight layers of tulle! A wedding dress is basically one big bug-catching net. Bring some top notch bug spray that you’ve both tested out beforehand, there are brands that are effective and don’t have a super strong scent. 2. There will be mud

If you hired us to shoot your wedding at a vineyard, you better believe that we are going to make you walk through the vines! Same goes for forests, fields, creeks, basically anywhere! Our obsession is getting the best possible, most creative photos of your wedding day and we’ll make the most of whatever scenery the venue provides. Trust us, Tide To Go works miracles. Or happily accept the fact that you are wearing delicate clothing that will undoubtedly collect dirt, leaves, sticks, and grass. We’d rather you have memories of romping through a field at sunset rather than staying squeaky clean at your wedding! We’ll remove anything super noticeable and, rest assured, most obvious things can be photoshopped out! 

3. Be realistic and plan for the weather in St. Louis

We don’t have to tell you how unpredictable the seasons can be for an outdoor wedding in St. Louis. Of course we’re always hoping for the best and Lauren watches the radar obsessively all week before weddings. But lucky for you, we’ve been doing this for a while now and have shot in all types of weather conditions. If there is a chance of rain, get cute umbrellas for the wedding party! Winter can be a gorgeous time of year for weddings, just wear a faux fur wrap or scarf to add some warmth and glamour!

Sunlight can be your best friend and your worst enemy. It adds ambience to the most epic sunset portrait and can also burn your forehead and shoulders to oblivion before the ceremony has even started. Be sure to bring your go-to sunscreen and apply it well before we head outside for photos. On another note, if you know that you sweat like the dickens in the heat (or just in general), bring a washcloth to dab your face with! Don’t be shy about wiping away sweat, we want you to feel super hot, not look super hot! Ultimately, it’s OUR JOB to create beautiful photos no matter the weather conditions!
